Timeless Hero

Additional information

Timeless Hero is a 2D video game that I have been developing for over more than 4 months as a final degree project. During all these 4 months, I had to combine my internship, university work, the development of this video game and my personal life so I was very busy as you can see. Its genre is a mix between single screen platformer and shoot’em up even though the main aspect or core of the game, is to have boss fights in each level where you need to beat the boss in order to progress in the game. The duration of the game is quite short since it only has 4 levels to complete. Approximately, it depends clearly on the skill of the player, but it should take between 30 minutes and a full hour to finish the game.

The video game can be played with either keyboard and mouse or a Xbox controller. Additional new devices controllers like for example a PS4 or Switch controller, can easily be implemented. I did not have the chance to add them to the project because I did not own any console controller that can be connected to the computer, including the Xbox controller that I had someone lend me it. I programmed all the inputs with the new experimental Input System that Unity has been developing for the past few years and I have to say that it is useful but has lots of bugs. As it is right now though, I would not recommend any developer to use it for a long term project. It is not worth the trouble, trust me. Hopefully, it will become a very powerful Unity tool in the near future because it has indeed potential.

Instructions

In order to play the build version which is the executable, you will simply need to click on the Timeless Hero.exe file. However, if you want to try using the developer version of the game, additional steps are required.

1. Download Timeless Hero and then download and install Unity Hub
2. Go to https://unity3d.com/get-unity/download/archive
3. Find Unity 2020.1.4 and click on Unity Hub
4. Complete the installation process
5. Open Unity Hub
6. Move to the Projects section on the left sidebar
7. Click Add and afterwards select the folder inside of the project
8. Open the project

Assets

I only was able to create a Windows build version. Since I am also including the developer version of the game, you can create whatever build you need for your operating system.

Regarding the downloads, the main one is the Unity project itself, followed by the Windows build version of Timeless Hero and finally, a documentation zip file where you can read more about the game and how it has been created.

I was not sure whether or not to include a gameplay or the promotional trailer that I created for the game. I decided to go for the later option since I do not want to spoil too much of the game.
